Week 2 : We were briefed on how to do good character designs. Mr Hafiz highlighted 3 main points to draw an effective character design which is making it iconic, simple and unique.
Iconic : We can recognize the character even by looking at their silhouttes
Simplicity : Simple designs allow users to recognize the design of the character easily and understand the concept of the character.
Unique: Memorable characters will leave a long lasting impression on the user's mind and simplicity tends to make it more unique.
I understood the principals of making good character design too and below are the factors
Shape : Will determine the outline of the character, used to distinguish one character from another, make it iconic and add weight to their personality.
Color : Will set the basis role of the character and ensure we use good color psychology to represent the character

Introduction on Blending Modes in Illustrator:
Blending are useful for changing the objects’ colour by adding blending effects and colors to the chosen objects. Blending modes works depending on the position of the object on the layer or group. We will discuss in detail all the available blending modes in Adobe Illustrator. Before that, it would be easy to remember a few terminologies while trying to understand the various blending modes:
- The original color of the selected object of all the group is known as the Blend Color.
- The Base Color refers to the colors lying underneath the artwork book.
- The color resulted after applying the blend is known as the Resulting Color.
Week 06: Composition and Depth:
Vormator Character Design
After we draw the shape under the guidance of the teacher, we copy the small shape we need, then flip, rotate, intersect, copy and scale the shape, and finally splice the shapes to get the pattern we want, which can be filled and combined with colors.
The full draft of my design:
The task is to bring the designed little monster into the panel given by the teacher.
